Following yet another exciting round of action in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Kruger United solidified their position at the top of the table, while Cape Town City surged in their hopes for a Betway Premiership return.
To begin with, Kruger United maintained top position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend following a 2-1 win against Highbury on Sunday.
Kruger now find themselves on 46 points, three points ahead of second-placed Cape Town City after building on from their 2-1 win against Lerumo Lions last week. As movements at the top of South Africa’s first division continue to take place, Cape Town City placed themselves into second position on the log after a 2-0 away win against Upington City on Sunday.
Much like that of Kruger, City are now on a two-match winning streak following a run of inconsistent results in their previous three matches, in which they recorded two draws and one defeat.
Fourth-placed Milford lost ground in their hopes of promotion after suffering a 2-1 loss against Gomora United on Saturday. Milford are winless in their last two encounters and trail the Promotion Playoff zone by two points and a further seven away from top spot.
Hungry Lions moved into third spot this weekend after notching an impressive 3-1 win against Venda Football Academy on Saturday. With 43 points to their name, Hungry Lions have recorded three wins and two draws in their last five, as they trail the summit by three points.
At the foot of the table, Baroka’s woes deepened as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Leicesterford City on Saturday, as they remained on 18 points from the campaign in 16th position.
Following four consecutive defeats, Baroka are now seven points away from safety, with relegation unravelling as a real possibility with six games left to play.
