Chiefs coach Khalid Ben Yusuf said he was proud of the way Kaizer Chiefs fought back from a goal down against Orbit College to win 3-1 on Monday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
It was a third successive win for AmaKhosi, who now have 39 points from 21 games.
“We expected that it would be a difficult game, which is always the case when you are competing against a team that is fighting to stay in the league,” said Ben Yusuf.
“So it was a tough game. I think our start wasn't good in the first 30 minutes, and it led to us conceding the first goal. The tempo was so slow. In the first 15 minutes, we lost 80 per cent of the challenges. If you want to win the game, you have to compete, you have to fight for every challenge.
“But we reacted well, which I think was a good mindset from the players. The last 15 minutes of the first half and in the second half, we played our game, and we showed our quality, we played faster and we played forward,” added the Chiefs co-coach.
“We created a lot of opportunities in the second half. I'm so proud of the players for their performance. Now for the future, we have to continue to work. We have to think about the next game. Like I’ve said before, every time we are managing each game, game per game, like they are cup games, and we have now to continue to start to think about the next game.”
Ben Yusuf said three wins on the trot for Chiefs would help keep up momentum.
“It’s very important for the confidence, for the team, for the fans. We have to keep this good moment. We have to continue to fight, to stay in this good vibe and with this good energy.”
Chiefs will be hoping to make it four on the trot when they take on TS Galaxy at home on Sunday at Soccer City.
“Starting from tomorrow, we'll start to plan for the game. The most important thing is that we are thinking only about our own performance, because I think that if we play like we played today, we can win the next game.
“But everything is difficult. We have to prepare properly and we have to stay focused. We don't have to enjoy a lot about this game. Now today we enjoy these three points, but starting from tomorrow, we have to think properly about the next game and to be focused on the next game.”
