Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro suffered a first defeat in the Swedish league with new club AIK Stockholm as they lost 2-1 to Degerfors on Thursday.
The result left AIK in sixth place, with seven points after their first four matches of the new Allsvenskan season, five points off top-placed Sirius who have won all of their opening four games.
AIK conceded an early own goal and then a late winner to their hosts in the 85th minute.
Riveiro took over at AIK at the start of the year, having left Pirates last May for Al Ahly in Egypt where he was fired after only months in the job.
Riveiro has recently been joined at AIK by longtime assistant Sergio Almenara who was with him for two of his three seasons at Pirates but then left in mid-2024.
The 45-year-old Spaniard’s last job was as an assistant coach at FC Copenhagen, but he left in early March.
AIK are next in action on Monday when they host Malmö, who were champions in 2023 and 2024 and last year finished sixth in the Swedish league, one place above AIK.
