Matchday 24 in the Betway Premiership saw Orlando Pirates suffer a blow in their quest to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as champions, while Kaizer Chiefs racked up a fourth straight win to continue their resurgence.
Pirates had the chance to claim top spot on the standings on Friday night when they took on Richards Bay in uMhlathuze, but they could only manage a 2-2 draw with the Natal Rich Boyz – and even that result relied on an injury-time equaliser from the Buccaneers’ Lebone Seema.

The result left the Soweto side in second place – one point behind Sundowns, who now have a game in hand and have reclaimed favourites status as far as the title race is concerned.
Saturday’s action was headlined by a Durban derby between Golden Arrows and Durban City at the King Zwelithini Stadium, with Abafana Bes’thende triumphing 1-0 thanks to Isaac Cisse’s first-half goal.
Elsewhere, 10-man AmaZulu struck late via Mlondi Mbanjwa to salvage a 1-1 draw away to Siwelele FC; Sekhkhune United returned to winning form by squeezing past bottom-of-the-log Magesi FC 1-0 with an injury-time strike by Bright Ndlovu; and a late Ndamulelo Maphangule penalty cancelled out Malebogo Modise’s opener to see Polokwane City hold Chippa United 1-1 at the Buffalo City Stadium.
