AmaZulu FC were the biggest winners of Betway Premiership matchday 26, as the top three teams and several relegation-threatened sides all dropped points.
Usuthu thrashed Chippa United 5-1 on Saturday, strengthening their hold on fourth place and moving to within five points of third-placed Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs squandered a lead and had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, as Bucs dropped two crucial points, but stayed top of the table.
That was largely because second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns failed to win for the second successive game, held to a 0-0 draw by a resilient Richards Bay side.
Friday’s matches produced no winners, with Durban City drawing 1-1 against Orbit College and Golden Arrows held 0-0 by Siwelele.
On Saturday, Sekhukhune United let a lead slip late on as they drew 1-1 with Marumo Gallants, leaving the latter in the relegation playoff spot.
Sekhukhune's Limpopo rivals, Magesi, missed a chance to pull further clear of danger, playing out a 0-0 draw with TS Galaxy on Sunday.
Finally, a late winner from Manuel Kambela earned Polokwane City a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, boosting their top-eight hopes and lifting them to sixth place.
