Simon du Plooy secured his first professional victory in dramatic fashion, defeating Daniel Cronje in a playoff to win the Betway Big Easy Blu Label Unlimited Invitational at Killarney Country Club on Thursday.
In just his rookie season, Du Plooy continues to make a strong impression, holding his nerve under pressure to convert a share of the lead into a breakthrough win.
The two players were tied at 7-under-par (200) after regulation play, forcing a playoff where Du Plooy ultimately prevailed.
The win marks a significant milestone in Du Plooy’s young career and signals the arrival of a rising force on the Sunshine Tour.
“It’s an incredible feeling to get my first win as a professional, especially in such a competitive field. Daniel pushed me all the way, and I’m just grateful I could finish it off,” said Du Plooy.
Daniel Cronje produced a composed and consistent performance throughout the tournament, pushing the eventual winner to the limit before narrowly missing out in the playoff.
Keegan Mclachlan finished third at 6-under-par (201), with Franklin Manchest in fourth at 4-under-par (203). Toto Thimba Jnr completed the top five at 3-under-par (204).
